Singapore
Singapore is a modern and progressing country that’s a major player in Southeast Asia. It’s more organized in terms of transportation, cleanliness, laws, and customs. Missionaries that serve in Singapore will have the opportunity to enjoy the tall buildings, ease of public transportation, the cleanliness of their surroundings, and a more efficient customs process. An important thing to remember is that missionaries need to follow what the Mission President says in terms of entering and leaving Singapore when their visas run out.
Areas to serve in the Singapore Zone:

*Missionaries will generally only speak English or Chinese
*Johor Masai is not part of Singapore (it’s in Malaysia), but it’s included in the Singapore Zone
*Sisters haven’t served in Johor recently

Sarawak

Sarawak is unique for missionaries because they’ll have the opportunity to learn the Iban language as well as Malay. This is the missionary’s own choice, or course, as they are only called to speak Malay. Sarawak is different than West Malaysia and Singapore, and also has differences with Sabah. One of these is that there is a larger percentage of Christians in Sarawak than in other places. There are lots of activities to do like hiking and visiting historical sites. Some traditional foods are Nasi pulut buluh, upa panto, miding, and others.

Lots of missionaries like to serve in Sabah because it has a lot of places for recreation. It’s also known for Mt. Kinabalu “Tinggi tinggi gunung Kinabalu.” Sabah is also a destination for foreigners looking for work, although the majority of people there are native Sabahan. They speak formal Malay there and the accent is slightly different, but it’s something you’ll get used to really quick. They are a very friendly people.

Missionaries who serve here will be able to enjoy the more modern feel, good transportation system, and other things. Transportation is especially easy in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and the surrounding areas. This is different in Malacca and Johor Bahru, where missionaries need to bike, sometimes very far, to get places. Missionary apartments are generally far from the main “working areas,” however they still work to bring the gospel to people all over their area. Ipoh is also unique, missionaries will need to access it by a train from KL, a ride of about 2 hours. Ipoh is a Cantonese area, and both Chinese and English speaking missionaries serve there.
Areas and branches of Kuala Lumpur:

*No Sisters in south Kuala Lumpur , Klang, or Melaka
*The majority of missionaries here are English and Chinese speaking.
Areas and branches of Ipoh Zone:

*No Sisters in Butterworth or Sitiawan.
*The majority of missionaries here are English and Chinese speaking.
This is all subject to changes made by the mission president of course.
